Faith Lessons: Psalm 119:105 — God’s Word as a Lamp for Our Feet

Psalm 119:105 reminds us that God’s Word is a lamp for our feet and a light on our path. Psalm 119—the longest chapter in the Bible—is an acrostic poem devoted entirely to the value of God’s law and how it guided His people in everyday life.

When the psalmist speaks of a lamp, he is not describing a bright floodlight that reveals the entire road ahead. Ancient lamps provided only enough light to see one or two steps at a time. In the same way, God’s Word does not always reveal the future—but it faithfully guides us in the present.

For God’s people, the law shaped daily decisions, relationships, and faithfulness. Today, the Holy Spirit continues this work by writing God’s ways on our hearts and guiding us through Scripture.

As followers of Jesus, we walk by faith, trusting that God’s Word—through His Spirit—will light the next step, day by day, as we follow Him.
